What is hypnosis?
I wonder how you have arrived at a site about hypnosis? Maybe you have heard from a friend or family member that they have had hypnosis and it has had amazing, life changing effects on them and you wonder if it might be able to help you? Or maybe your only knowledge about hypnosis is watching stage hypnosis on the television. Here are a few things you might like to know about hypnosis:
- Almost anyone can be hypnotised, exceptions being people who have dementia and those who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the hypnosis session.
- Hypnosis is a state that people choose to be in. If you choose at any point not to remain in Hypnosis you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state.
- The person hypnotising you cannot override your moral code. You will not say or do anything that you don’t want whilst under hypnosis.
The way our mind works is amazing. When we work with Hypnosis we calm the conscious mind, the bit which plans things and helps us to organise our lives. We do this by getting the client to concentrate on breathing deeply and slowly and by reminding their body to relax. Once we begin to create calm the emotional part of the mind also begins to relax, allowing us to work with the subconscious mind. This part of the mind holds our thoughts and wishes, emotional desired and concerns. It is a huge database. The subconscious is very susceptible to suggestion which is why this is the part of the mind which we work with during hypnosis.
What is it like to have a hypnosis session?
You will sit in a comfy chair and we will have a chat about why you are here and what you would like to get from your session. When we have agreed on the desired outcome of the session we will be ready for the hypnotherapy part. It is usual to close your eyes in order to easily begin to relax. You will be asked to concentrate on your breathing and listen to my voice. It is that easy. You just sit and listen. When you open your eyes at the end of the session you will feel calm, more positiv,e and like you’ve been away on a pleasant trip. Sometimes people feel a bit tired too after a session, depending on how long they have been troubled by the problem that brought them here.
